Blog - How big is a disco?

How much space do you require is a regular question I get. And itís important when planning any event to consider the amount of space that suppliers require, including the DJ.

Firstly I should point out that every DJ is different so this guide is based on my standard setup.

Mobile disco setup

The main bulk of my setup is my console, which houses the majority of my equipment. It measures 1.2 metres (4ft) wide and 90cms (3ft) deep (thatís allowing space for me to stand behind it). This is the main space that I require.

I also need space to put my speakers, but these are more flexible and can be positioned away from the console provided that I can safely run a cable to them from the console. Each speaker requires approximately 60cms by 60cms (2ft by 2ft).

Itís also worth bearing in mind my overhead lighting, which extends just over 30cms (1ft) either side of the console if Iím using both sides. Sometimes Iíll minimise my lighting so I only need one side.

If youíre ever unsure Iím always happy to offer advice on the best place for my equipment to be located, Iíd far rather sort this out in advance than on the night when itís too late.
